Americans Furious After Trump Claims Puerto Rico Death Toll Was Invented By Democrats

President Trump took to his Twitter on Thursday to cast doubt on studies that discovered that roughly 3,000 people perished in Puerto Rico as a result of Hurricane Maria.

“3000 people did not die in the two hurricanes that hit Puerto Rico. When I left the Island, AFTER the storm had hit, they had anywhere from 6 to 18 deaths,” Trump tweeted.

“As time went by it did not go up by much. Then, a long time later, they started to report really large numbers, like 3000,” he continued.

“…..This was done by the Democrats in order to make me look as bad as possible when I was successfully raising Billions of Dollars to help rebuild Puerto Rico,” Trump said in a subsequent tweet. “If a person died for any reason, like old age, just add them onto the list. Bad politics. I love Puerto Rico!”

Puerto Rico officials revealed last month a new estimate at the death toll as a result of the 2017 hurricane which currently sits at 2,975 after a study by the George Washington University that outlined the aftermath of the cyclone discovered that the number was significantly higher than the 64 deaths that had been initially reported.

As the administration preps for the impending devastation of Hurricane Florence, Trump has in recent days tried to assert that his administration’s response to Hurricane Maria was a success, despite the growing death toll and harsh criticism from local officials.
