The question of whether Trump’s presidency is destroying the GOP has already been answered. The more relevant question now is how much longer will top Republicans sit back and watch their party self-destruct?
According to the Boston Globe, one of the GOP’s top donors not only abandoned ship, but he also changed teams. The now-former GOP donor, billionaire CEO of the Baupost Group Seth Klarman, stated:
“The Republicans in Congress have failed to hold the president accountable and have abandoned their historic beliefs and values.” He added, “For the good of the country, the Democrats must take back one or both houses of Congress.”
Klarman has already donated to fifty-six Democrats in House races and twenty-two in Senate races.
Klarman then added this doozy:
“I received a tax cut I neither need nor want. I’m choosing to invest it to fight the administration’s flawed policies and to elect Democrats to the Senate and House of Representatives.”
And who can argue with a billionaire over the flawed trickle-down economics theory that Republicans based their tax bill upon?
Klarman also wrote: “The Trump tax cuts could drive government deficits considerably higher.”
He then reminded readers that former President George W. Bush’s tax cuts in 2001 “fueled income inequality while triggering huge federal budget deficits.”
What is your reaction?
