The GOP is no stranger to hypocrisy; in fact, one could say that the GOP epitomizes the word. One of the many controversies currently brewing on Capitol Hill is the president’s inclination toward relieving himself of special counsel Robert Mueller.
While many experts believe firing Robert Mueller would result in impeachment, they fail to consider the many preceding impeachable actions of the president that have been swept under the rug.
One of several Republican Senators who is fighting to ensure that Robert Mueller stays in his post is Republican Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina.
Tillis recently spoke with Politico about his legislation that protects Mueller. He chastised his fellow Republicans, stating, “The same people who would criticize me for filing this bill would be absolutely angry if I wasn’t pounding the table for this bill if we were dealing with Hillary Clinton.”
He added, “So spare me your righteous indignation.”
Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Christopher Coons (D-Del.) joined Tillis to author the bipartisan legislation.
Tillis later stated, “The only way you get these things done [is] when you have somebody who is willing to take the heat when you’re in the majority.”
If Trump moves to dismiss Mueller, the bill will allow Mueller “expedited judicial review” within ten days of his potential removal to determine whether he was fired for “good cause.”
What is your reaction?
