In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, former Vice President Joe Biden said that he hasn’t dismissed the possibility of running for president in the 2020 election. “I haven’t decided to run, but I’ve decided I’m not going to decide not to run. We’ll see what happens.”
Biden’s career has revolved around politics, and he was unsuccessful in running in 1988 and again in 2008. He considered running again in 2016, but after his son Beau Biden lost his battle with brain cancer in 2015, it was too much for him to take on.
Biden said, “I had planned on running, and I wasn’t running against Hillary or Bernie or anybody else. Honest to God, I thought that I was the best suited for the moment to be president.”
In the interview, Biden laughed and said, “This sounds corny, but everything the founders did was to erect institutions that made it more difficult to abuse power. That’s why they have three different branches of government. And what really worries me about this administration is the frontal attack on those institutions that, if they were lost, makes the abuse of power so much more available.”
Here’s hoping Biden decides to run in 2020, because we’re going to need some serious damage control after what Trump has done.
