Former Obama Defense Secretary Leon Panetta blasted Donald Trump’s latest threat, this time to Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro.
“When you’re president of the United States, when you’re commander in chief – this is not reality TV,” Panetta said on a CNN news program. “This is a situation where you can’t just talk down to everybody in the world and expect that somehow you can bully them to do what you think is right.”
Panetta added, “These are leaders in these countries. They worry about their countries, they’re worrying about what’s going to happen. And they take the president of the United States literally. Words count.”
This came hours after Trump’s comments to a reporter from his Bedminster, NJ golf club, “We have many options for Venezuela, including a possible military option, if necessary.” It was reported that President Maduro requested a phone call with President Trump and was refused.
Trump is proving that being a businessman and a reality TV host does not qualify you for the Presidency.
